The Lockheed Constellation, affectionately known as ‘Connie’, was more than just an aircraft - it was a symbol of style, speed and the glamour of the golden age of aviation. With its elegant, wave-shaped fuselage and three distinctive vertical stabilisers, it was an absolute eye-catcher - both on the ground and in the air.
Developed in the 1940s, originally for TWA and Howard Hughes, the Constellation initiated a new era of travelling. It flew higher, faster and more comfortably than its predecessors. Cabin pressure was a novelty and made flying really pleasant for the first time - you no longer travelled, you floated.

On transatlantic routes, the Constellation was the measure of all things. Whether with TWA, Pan Am or Lufthansa - it stood for exclusivity and progress. At a time when flying was still an event, it epitomised the promise of a limitless world.
It also set technical standards: with four powerful Wright R-3350 piston engines, it reached speeds of over 500 km/h and distances of up to 5,000 kilometres. Despite its size, it never appeared cumbersome - in flight, it looked almost like a dancer.
Today, the ‘Connie’ is an icon of civil aviation. A few examples are still airworthy – carefully restored, loved and admired.
The Lockheed Constellation is the epitome of elegance above the clouds, a floating reminder of the time when flying was still something magical.
