Few Flyers, Massive Emissions – Calls for Regulation

Private jet CO₂ emissions surged by 46% between 2019 and 2023, reaching 15.6 million tons last year. Many of these flights cover short distances under 500 km, often for leisure and vacations, adding to the environmental impact.

Although only 0.003% of the world’s population uses private jets, they account

for 1.8% of commercial aviation emissions. Peaks in private jet use are seen during major

events and political summits.

The study calls for stricter regulation: tax breaks and exemptions from emissions

charges should be reconsidered. To combat climate change and promote fairness, reforming private aviation is essential.
